Foreign Policy: Whispering at Autocrats

In one fell swoop, the candor of the cables released by WikiLeaks did more for Arab democracy than decades of backstage US diplomacy. It was a public statement exposing what the US Govt really thought about the regime: a statement that was vivid, honest, raw, undiplomatic, extremely well-timed — and completely inadvertent.
