The English language version of the user-edited encyclopedia was blocked for a few weeks but was recently re-opened, my sources tell me. The <a href=\"http:\/\/ku.wikipedia.org\">Kurdish version<\/a> is still blocked however, and can not be accessed at all from within Iran. <\/p>\n<p>Iran?s Kurdish minority is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalsecurity.org\/military\/world\/war\/kurdistan-iran.htm\">constant worry<\/a> for the Iranian central regime, when some of the people have refused to assimilate into the mainstream of national life and does, along with their fellow Kurds in adjacent regions of Iraq and Turkey, seek either regional autonomy or the outright establishment of an independent Kurdish state in the region.<\/p>\n<p>It appears not only the Chinese are afraid of the power of <em>wikis<\/em>, although their movements are more <a href=\"http:\/\/www.andrewlih.com\/blog\/2006\/11\/21\/new-users-still-up-on-chinese-wp\/\">closely<\/a> monitored by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opennetinitiative.net\/blog\/?p=126\">the<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rsf.org\/article.php3?id_article=15374\">NGOs<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/business\/personaltech\/articles\/2006\/11\/18\/chinese_cut_off_from_wikipedia\/\">international<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/asia.cnet.com\/reviews\/blog\/littleredblog\/0,39056119,61968225,00.htm\">press<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/ethanzuckerman.com\/blog\/?p=347\">the<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalvoicesonline.org\/2006\/11\/20\/china-wikipedia-blocked-unblocked-and-reblocked\/\">blogging<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/rconversation.blogs.com\/rconversation\/2006\/10\/links_for_20061_7.html\">digerati<\/a>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Word from Iran has it that parts of Wikipedia are censored for access from within the country.
